NDT Inspection Services in Saudi Arabia | Rope Access based testing

AIMMS Group provides rope access-based NDT inspection services in Saudi Arabia, specializing in Eddy Current (ECI) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) for safe, efficient testing in the oil & gas and offshore sectors. These methods are essential for identifying surface and subsurface flaws in critical components without causing any damage, making them ideal for the offshore, marine, and oil & gas industries.

A key differentiator in our service offering is our proficiency in rope access techniques, which enable our certified inspectors to reach hard-to-access and high-risk areas—including flare stacks, underdecks, elevated structures, and confined spaces. This approach reduces the need for scaffolding, cuts down costs, and enhances safety and efficiency.

With a strong track record of global success and a growing presence in Saudi Arabia, AIMMS Group is proud to be a trusted provider of NDT inspection services for offshore assets.

Recent Offshore NDT Projects in Saudi Arabia

We believe in showcasing results. Below are two recent offshore NDT projects in Saudi Arabia that highlight our capabilities in rope-access-based inspections:

Project 1: Rope Access NDT Inspection on Barge DB-50

Location: Offshore Saudi Arabia

Project Duration: 12 January – 10 Feb 2025

Techniques Used: Eddy Current Inspection (ECI), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)

Crew Size: 3 Men team (IRATA -L3, L2 & L1) Certified Inspectors

In January 2025, AIMMS Group successfully completed a Rope Access NDT Inspection on the DB-50 barge, located offshore Saudi Arabia. The primary objective was to perform a comprehensive structural integrity assessment with zero impact on ongoing operations.

Our certified inspection team utilized Eddy Current Inspection (ECI) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) techniques to evaluate critical structural components. Inspections were carried out at height using rope access, allowing safe and efficient access to elevated and hard-to-reach areas—while strictly complying with international safety and quality standards.

Scope of Work NDT inspection Included:

  • Gantry Crane

  • Crawler Crane

  • Lifeboat & Life Raft

  • Monorail Runway Beam

We are currently performing Ultrasonic Thickness (UT) gauging on the same barge at Jebel Ali Port as of May 2025, continuing our long-term involvement with this vessel. Since 2018, AIMMS Group has been consistently engaged in inspection and maintenance services for this barge. Notably, in August 2024, we carried out a comprehensive inspection as part of its scheduled maintenance, and in 2022, we conducted similar inspection work on the same vessel while it was docked in Qatar. All inspection activities are executed in full compliance with ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) Class requirements, and our procedures and reporting are aligned with ABS Class-approved standards, ensuring precision, reliability, and safety.

AIMMS Group has been consistently supporting the DB-50 barge through multiple inspection campaigns across different locations. Beyond the DB-50, we are also regularly consulted for NDT inspections and rope access services other barges for the same client, reinforcing our trusted role in their offshore operations.

Project 2: Rig HB-57 – NDT Inspection

Location: Saudi Offshore

Project Duration: 2 April – 15 April

Techniques Used: Eddy Current Inspection (ECI) & Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)

Crew Size: 3 Men team (IRATA -L3, L2 & L1) Certified Inspectors

Scope of NDT Inspection work included:

The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection covered the following key structural components:

  • BOP Trolley Beam

  • Cranes

  • Casing Stabbing Board

  • Lifeboat Davits

This was a high-priority offshore project requiring rapid mobilization and precise execution. Our team of certified inspectors utilized rope access techniques to safely reach elevated and difficult-to-access areas of the rig. Using Eddy Current Inspection (ECI) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), they carried out accurate flaw detection and integrity assessments of critical components. The rig was under ABS Class, and all inspection activities were conducted in accordance with ABS Class requirements.

The project was completed within the designated 14-day timeframe, in full compliance with industry standards. The client expressed high satisfaction with the quality, efficiency, and professionalism of our work.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a group of techniques used to evaluate the condition of materials and structures without damaging them. It helps detect flaws like cracks, corrosion, or weld defects.

  1. Which NDT methods are commonly used offshore?

The most used NDT methods in offshore applications are:

  • ECI (Eddy Current Inspection) – ideal for surface and near-surface defects in conductive materials

  • MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) – for surface and slightly subsurface flaws in ferromagnetic materials

Other methods include UT (Ultrasonic Testing), RT (Radiographic Testing), and VT (Visual Testing).

  1. Why use rope access for offshore NDT?

Rope access allows technicians to reach elevated or confined spaces quickly and safely, avoiding the need for bulky scaffolding. It’s ideal for offshore inspections where access is limited and safety is paramount.
